Summary and Report on Online Global Workshop on Six Days Online Global Programme on 'Basics of Business Analytics and Data Sciences' held from 3rd to 8th of August 2020. Business analytics and data science are often used interchangeably but are different at many levels. While both are used in solving business problems and decision-making processes in organisations, both have different job descriptions and skills requirements. The syllabus for these two fields is also, therefore, different at many levels. “Today, both Data Science and Business Analytics have become an integral part of how business problems are answered. Both involve data gathering, modelling, and insight gathering and are used interchangeably. However, they are quite different from each other, particularly the scope of the problem each address,” says Anish Agarwal, Director – Data & Analytics, India, NatWest Group. The Online Workshop was conducted with the very objective to involve and engage the research scholars in intensive discussion, presentations and participation on the subject of Business Analytics and Data Sciences. These deliberations and outcomes of the workshop had enriched them in their ongoing and proposed projects including PhD thesis, dissertation, projects and research articles. The online workshop has been designed to guide the researcher from the selection of the topic to all the developmental stages of the research work. Some methods include searching the internet, collecting data at the library, interviewing customers, running surveys and focus groups. Each type of research has pros and cons, so it’s important to be aware of all the variations and their applications. Business Analytics and Data Sciences included many ways of gathering information about an industry, its competition or the opportunities available that are relevant for conducting the research. The contemporary practices and guidelines set by various competent authority around the globe for research had been elaborated and explained by the resource persons invited for the workshop. Approx. 75 researchers and academicians including Graduates, Post Graduates, Post PG Students and Teachers, registered and participated in the workshop.
